The authority in Imatong state has earlier appealed to business communities to supply food items to markets in Imatong state while assuring them of its protection from wherever they may need government intervention so as to rescue citizens from hunger and the scarcity of food in the market, which has caused death and forced many to the neighboring counties.

The mayor of Torit municipal council, Eddy William, assured citizens of government effort to bring more food to town and as such he urged the citizens to comply with current prices as government will continue to engage business people to harmonize their prices in order not to let  citizens flee just because of hunger and scarcity of food in the market.

Mayor Eddy said the local authority will continue to harmonize the prices of food items as well as considering the business profit so as to encourage business people to import more food to the markets, saying:

“government will not control market and the fixed prices will be suspended to allow business to run”.

The mayor of Torit municipal, this year, issued an order of fixing prices of food items; rising the licenses and security funds in Torit markets, of which has discouraged business people from operating in the new state.

His statement was received as a good news by the business people and is expected to encourage them to continue operationalizing their activities while the sufffering population continue to put the authority on check.

A consumer known as Ihisa Josephine said although there is food now available in the markets, the prices are still high.

“even me as government employee will not afford to pay neither the 25Kg of maize flour which cost 1100 or 50kg sorghum is 1750” she said.

The mayor, nevertheless tried to provide more solutions for the citizens to meet their demands

“they should cultivate and produce local food to fight the market not to continue relaying on the imported food from the neighboring countries or states”.  Said the mayor.

It is good that Somalians work, but they to be control because officials in the South Sudan like them because of corruption and it is the same with Northerners. I am not against any human beings, but 70% of Somalians in Western Europe are jobless. South Sudan is not a transit routes.

If they are jobless in the Western world as you claim, how come they are in Southern Sudan proving essential goods where others have stayed away. Xenophobia is a tterrible disease of the mind.
