Jan 09, 2021(Nyamilepedia) — Last November 2019, Joe R Biden, the former vice president, and his running mate Senator Kamala Harris won the United States’ Presidential election. They ran against the incumbents’ President Donald J Trump and Vice president Mike Pence. As a result of this, Joe Biden became the 46th President-elect, and Kamala Harris vice President-Elect. Hopefully, on January 20th, 2021, both Joe and Harris will be officially sworn in as president and vice president, respectively. It was a significant victory for the Democratic Party after the unexpected defeat of Hillary Clinton in 2016. Although Clinton won the popular votes in the 2016 election, she lost the Electoral College and, consequently, the presidential election.  In my opinion, this victory was badly needed by more than 80 million Americans who were not happy with the African leaders’ leadership style of Donald J Trump and the way he handles the pandemic.

First of all, Joe Biden has made a remarkable decision by picking senator Kamala Harris as his running mate. It is the first time in American history, a woman in general and a black-African woman of Asian descent to hold the United States of America’s vice president office. It is an event that will not be forgotten by Americans all their life. Although it’s not a big deal for a woman to be a vice president in other countries, it is an extraordinary change in America’s political history. So I was astonished to learn that South Sudan, born in 2011, has a woman, unelected Vice president before the oldest democracy on earth.

Moreover, in 2008 Joe Biden helped Barack Obama won the U.S. presidential election. As a result, Obama became the first black African American to occupy the highest office in the land. Although Obama was an extraordinary leader, choosing Joe Biden as his running mate boosted his electability, especially among white voters. The combination of black and white supporters worked well in 2008, 2012, and 2020 presidential elections. However, the common factor here is Joe Biden. His effort forces Obama to break the traditions and norms of former presidents not directly involved in the compaign and campaigned vigorously for Joe Biden in the 2020 U.S presidential election.

All in all, Joe Biden has changed American History by helping the first black African American become a president and the first-ever woman in general and black African women of Asian descent vice presidents.
