Bahr-el-Ghazal University academic secretary Joseph Ohure broke the sad news saying that the death shook him as he was not aware of when the late professor travelled to Khartoum or his sickness.

“Very, very sad news, I just received a phone call from Juba by one of our doctors and he told me that Samson Wasara passed on this morning in Khartoum,” said the academic secretary of Bahr-el-Ghazal University.

“It is a shock to me because I did not hear how he went to Khartoum or when he was sick,” he added.

Joseph Ohure said that it is difficult to describe the late Prof. Samson Wassara adding that he is a very honest man.

The Academic Secretary said Prof. Wassara was a man of integrity, a man who told people the truth all the times.

According to Mr. Ohure, the late Professor had proposed Yambi University before he joined the University of Bahr-el-Ghazal.

“He was the vice-chancellor of the proposed Yambio University which doesn’t exist now and he became the vice-chancellor of the University of Bahr-el-Ghazal,” he said.

The late Professor Samson Wassara was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the Bahr el-Ghazal University in Wau in 2014.

He was a Professor of Political Science in the Department of Political Science at the University of Juba before he was transferred to Wau and promoted Vice-Chancellor.

His research covered conflicts, security, hydro-politics, state-building, and governance.

According to his family, Professor Wassara died in his 70s.
