Responding to the communique of the 38th Extra-ordinary Assembly of the IGAD heads of state and government, which was held on December 20th, 2020 in Djibouti, the capital of the Republic of Djibouti, the office of Dr. Machar’s Press Secretary “welcomes IGAD resolution number 9 on the freedom of H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon”.

“The Office of the First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan, and Chairman and Commander-in-Chief of the SPLM/SPLA (IO) welcomes IGAD resolution number 9 on the freedom of H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, as came out from the 38th Extraordinary Assembly of the Heads of State and Government, in Djibouti, on 20th December, 2020.” The statement reads.

The brief statement left many supporters, friends and sympathizers excited over what seems to be a good news; however, others are questioning what the statements really means.

The first announcement by Machar’s press secretary office pointed readers to resolution number which saw mixed reaction mostly along tribal lines as Kiir’s supporters seemed to protest what Machar’s supporters welcomed with joy.
