Oct 29, 2020(Nyamilepedia) —  Spearheading federalism, a system of governance whose demand is considered to be of public interest, South Sudan’s First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, announced on Wednesday that a workshop has been launched to prepare the country for federal systems.

According to the Press Secretary of the First Vice President, the event was organized by the ministry of Federal Affairs in an occassion that was attended by senior government officials.

“South Sudan has launched a workshop today in a bit to prepare the country for federalism. Organized by the ministry of Federal Affairs, the occasion was attended by senior government officials and a number of foreign diplomats,” Said Machar’s press office.

The First Vice President believes that the world’s youngest nation established this ministry to demonstrate that the country is serious to transition to the new system of governance.

“South Sudan established the ministry for federalism which indicated the seriousness to prepare the nation for the federal system of governance.” Machar’s office said.

The forum is expected to deliberate on the best practices that will then be recommended to the permanent constitution-making mechanism as required by the peace agreement.

“Participants will brainstorm on how best to approach the federal system of government, with references to other best practices around the world. The matter will also be tackled in the permanent constitution-making process in accordance with the R-ARCSS.” The Statement added.

According to South Sudanese intellectuals, particularly from the two regions of Equatoria and Upper Nile, federalism has been a popular demand of South Sudanese since 1947 and therefore it is a conversation whose time has come.

The demand for Federal Systems has been one of the main agenda the SPLM/A-IO wants to be implemented; however, the peace process is dragging on very slowly with very little being accomplished.
