Kenyan Police disperse DP William Ruto meeting in Nyamira

Oct 08, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — Chaos erupted earlier today in Kebirigo High School, Nyamira, when police dispersed the residents who were gathering to welcome the Deputy President William Ruto.

This forced the deputy President to cancel the meeting.

Dr. Ruto took to twitter to announce that the meeting was pushed to next week after consultations with local leaders.

“After consultations with MPs Kemosi, Mose,Nyamoko, the bodaboda sacco and church leadership who had invited us, we have postponed the two functions in Nyamira County to Thursday next week. The disruptive dispersal by police of kenyans engaged in economic empowerment is unnecessary” Ruto tweeted.

The leaders who were allies to the deputy president were angered by the police decision, saying that they are not happy.

“We are not happy. We had organised this meeting and invited the deputy president so that we can lobby funds to help the bodaboda operators in this area. This is an important meeting to help them because the operators have chosen the right path instead of engaging in crime,” Meshack Mose said in a video seen by nyamilepedia.

In another video, these leaders, MPs Vincent Kemosi [West Mugirango], Shadrack Mose [Kitutu Masaba] and Hon. Joash Nyamoko [ North Mugirango] were furiously confronting authorities at Kebirigo, Nyamira, accusing them of being given orders to disperse them.

“We are helping you but you are given orders to disperse us,” they said.

The police officers were sent to the venue just a day after the government issued a raft of guidelines that must be complied with by anyone convening a public meeting.
