Arab League endorses Sudan Peace Agreement, wants to become a guarantor

Oct 07, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan president Salva Kiir received a Mission from Arab League led by Ambassador Khaled Abdel Rahim, who is visiting the Africa’s youngest nation to endorse the Sudan Comprehensive Peace Agreement that was signed here three days ago.

The head of the mission, Amb. Khaled, presented a letter of endorsement from the Secretary General of the Arab League, Aboul Gheit, endorsing the Sudan Peace Agreement and Expressing the willingness of the Arabic League to be one of the peace guarantors.

While delivering the message, Ambassador Khaled said the Arab League’s Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul-Gheit welcomes the Sudanese Juba Peace Agreement signed between the Transitional Government of Sudan Sovereign Council and the Sudanese Revolutionary Movements as a crucial step towards attaining stability in the Sudans.

Amb. Khaled further stressed that the Peace in Sudan means Peace in South Sudan and the entire Arab League.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, the Chairperson of the mediation Committee for Sudan’s Peace, Tut Gatluak told said that President Salva Kiir appealed to the Arab League to bring the two holdout Opposition Groups of SPLM-North of General Abdel Aziz Adam al-Hilu and SLM of Abdel Wahid Nur to join the peace process for a comprehensive peace in Sudan.

The Sudan’s Comprehensive Peace Agreement is most welcomed by leaders from the regions and also from the Arab worlds who stand in solidarity for peace and stability of Sudan.

The East African region has also shown a strong support although many leaders from the region did not show up in persons.

While South Sudan is mediating the Sudanese parties, Sudan under the former leader Omar Hassan el Bashir also mediated the South Sudanese warring parties in 2018 that led to the signing of the current peace agreement in South Sudan.
