Oct 5, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan’s incumbent, President Salva Kiir, who was honored with an International Peace Award on Leadership and Good Governance, has received the leaders of the Universal Peace Federation International at the presidential palace, J1.
The International Peace Award was presented to President Salva Kiir by the Universal Peace Federation International and global network of Ambassadors for Peace on the occasion of the final signing ceremony of the Sudan’s Peace Agreement in Juba on Saturday 3rd October 2020.
According to President Salva Kiir’s spokesman, Ateny Wek Ateny, this is the highest award of the UPF “awarded to individuals who manifest outstanding principles in leadership, integrating professional excellence and practical wisdom”
“This is the highest award of the Universal Peace Federation awarded to individuals who manifest outstanding principles in leadership, integrating professional excellence and practical wisdom with moral and universal principles based living for the sake of others, in service to God and fellow citizens in their country and beyond.” Ateny Wek Ateny said.
A letter that was sent to president Kiir ahead of the ceremony read “It is our distinct honor and pleasure to inform Your Excellency that you have been selected as the recipient of the Leadership and Good Governance Award.”
According to president Salva Kiir’s office “the UPF recognized particularly the outstanding and exemplary leadership of H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit that he has demonstrated in bringing peace to both Sudan, South Sudan.”
“When all other international and regional efforts failed to bring peace to Sudan, H.E, Salva Kiir Mayardit prioritized Sudan’s peace talks as a top national issue of his government.” Ateny Wek claimed.
The presidential spokesman believes that President Kiir has a vision for Sudan that would make South Sudan and the region stable.
“The vision of H.E. Salva Kiir Mayardit for Sudan’s political stability was an essential element which resulted in the positive outcome to South Sudan in particular and the region in general” Ateny claims.
“Prent Salva Kiir’s vision closed the gap between the Sudanese warring parties and opened the path for the regional and international bodies to support the final deal under South Sudan’s auspices.” He added.
“It is a milestone achievement which will bring Sudan’s armed conflict in various parts of Sudan to an end once and for all.” Ateny said.
Although the South Sudanese leadership takes credit for mediating Sudan peace deal, South Sudan leaders remain at a loggerhead.
While attempts to implement the already signed peace deal are not making the expected progresses, negotiations with the hold-out groups are yet to make tangible breakthrough.
