According to Joseph Malook, who is a former commissioner, at least 11 people were on Monday in Agang-rial, 7 people from Ayiel’side and 4 from Pagoor’s side.

“They just run from house to house shooting people and they went to a certain town called Agang-rial, they start fighting…a total of seven from Ayiel side and four from Pagoor side.” Malook told a local radio station this morning.

The former commissioner described the killings that fitted two sub-dinka tribes as disturbing and planned.

Although calm has returned, the area has experienced endless waves of communal violence.

The violence is mostly because of revenge attacks, cattle raiding and land grabbing.

President Salvar Kiir started a campaign in July that was aimed at disarming the civilians in order to end tribal violence in the country.

Some of the areas that were targeted by the campaign were Lakes, Terekeka, warrap and Jonglei.

The communities in these areas have rejected the president’s conflict resolution initiative arguing it could leave them vulnerable to the raids.

In May, the head of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan condemned the intercommunal fighting.

“We strongly urge the Government and other parties to compromise and agree on these critical positions so the states can take measures to prevent conflict, build peace, and assist with the COVID-19 response,” said David shearer.
