Two senior goverment officials gunned down by a police officer in Juba
Sep 24, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — Two senior officials from Akobo and Maiwut have been gunned down by a police officer on Wednesday evening in the capital , Juba.
According to eyewitnesses, the two officials were shot dead in unprovoked incident while drinking tea near the Landmark hotel.
The two officials were identified as the former commissioner of Longechuk County in former Maiwut state, Hon. Dok Tuak Bithouk, and the former minister of education, science and technology in the defunct Akobo state, Hon. Yiey Ruathdel.
“So, when they opened fire, they killed Dok Tuach Bithouk, and Yiey Ruazel,” said one of their colleagues who escaped the scene.
Speaking to the media after the incident, the Police Spokesman Major-General Daniel Justin, said the killer was identified as a member of the police force.
“A police personnel shot people dead at Hai-Ceinema near police square” Major-General Daniel Justin confirmed the incident.
The spokesman could not speculate on why the officials were kiled but he said an investigation has been established.
“We are now investigating the incident. A case was opened against the suspect in Police Northern Division in Juba,” Daniel Justin said.
The two officials were from different subtribes of the Nuer tribe and unlike other incidents that have been connected to tribal revenge, no one could speak on what led to the tragedy at the time of this writing.
