The outgoing Minister, Garang mabiordit, who has been accused of corruption and mismanagement, was appointed in late 2018 to replace Stephen Dhieu Dau in hope to reform the economy that has been shrinking since 2013.

Before his appointment in 2018, Garang served as the Undersecretary in the same Ministry for more than 10 years.

The move has seen firing of the National Revenue Authority boss, the acting Commissioner General Erjok Bullen Geu, who was relieved and replaced by Africano Mande as the National Revenue Authority (NRA) Commissioner General by decree read on SSBC this evening.

President Kiir also relieved the Managing Director of Nilepet,  Dr Chol Deng Thon and appointed Eng. Bol Riing Morwel as New Managing Director.

Both Athian and Bol are from Salva Kiir’s Dinka tribe and similarly the outgoing officials were Dinka.

The Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, and other lucrative Ministries, have been predominantly held by the Dinka tribesmen in a move that leave other 63 tribes wondering if the president means good for the country.

Similarly, Kiir’s office is predominately occupied by his tribesmen from the former and current Presidential Affairs Minister, Press Secretary to photographers and janitors.

These appointments among others have sparked criticisms as president Kiir seems to be allocating everything to his tribe.
