Kenyan Ministry of Health warns against huge gathering

Sep 14, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The ministry of health has warned against “putting our guard down” in the fight against Corona Virus to avoid the second phase of the pandemic.

The cabinet assistant secretary, Mercy Mwangi, said this during the daily Covid 19 briefing where she announced 48 new cases.

She added that two more people have succumbed to the virus bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 624.

On a lighter note, 176 patients have recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours.

“We do take note of the emerging trends where we have gatherings amongst our communities and we continue to remind you all of the protocols when it comes to people aggregating together.” Cabinet assistant secretary Mercy Mwangangi said.

She asked members of the public to avoid going into places that social distancing is not maintained.

She further emphasized on the allowed number of people in social gatherings including funerals and weddings. The maximum limit allowed is 100.

Failure to adhere to this, she said “we are risking facing a surge in the Covid 19 cases”.

“There is need for us to step up our guard to ensure that we continue to strictly adhere to the containment measures as advised and reminding each and every one of us of those three measures which include washing our hands with soap and water, maintaining social distance and physical while avoiding gatherings and ensuring that we are able to the containment measures.” She said.

To put more emphasis on the need to maintain the guard up, the director general for health, Dr. Patrick Amoth, added that the disease is still at large.

He said that the reporting rate for Kenya is low at 64% compared with the global rate of 72%.

He said that the trajectory of the curve is on a downward spiral.

Dr. Amoth further warned that if “we loosen the measures, there is a possibility of reversing the gains we have made over time.”
