“Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) is what we need” ~ Odinga

Sep 13, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — Kenya’s former Primer Minister and the Opposition leader, Hon. Raila Odinga, holding a meeting in Mombasa with Orange Democratic leaders in the coast region in a bid to popularize the Building Bridges Initiative, assures that what Kenya needs is the BBI.

Speaking in the meeting yesterday, the ODM leader insisted that the BBI is what will bring “the change we need”.

“BBI is not a game to solve only the current issues that Kenyans are facing today. It is the key to getting into the roots of these issues. It is about providing long lasting solutions on the issues that are affecting Kenyans.” Hon. Odinga said.

Many Kenyans have been weary of the BBI as they are afraid it might come with more political positions, and in return it may add to the already stretched wage bill.

Contrary to this, Mr. Odinga assured Kenyans that the initiative is not about creating posts but it is meant to aid in the development process of the country.

“It will bring about the fruits of independence that are yet to be reaped, 56 years later.” He said.

Speaking in Swahili Odinga reiterates that BBI will not hand out free money or jobs but it is much deeper than that.

“BBI sio mambo ya mchezo, Si ati watu wakabalishe Kariba kupatia watu pesa, kupatia watu sijui kazi…. BBI is much more deeper.” He said.

According to the ODM leader, the initiative will bring solution to the 2/3 gender rule in the constitution that Kenya is yet to achieve.

He added that the BBI will help to solve the County Allocation Revenue bill that the senate hasn’t been able to pass on 10 different sittings.

“It is about the equitable sharing of country resources to bring about development.” Odinga continued.

The former Prime Minister reiterates that the BBI report is an initiative tasked in inquiring and providing recommendations in nine areas that are deemed important to the effort to create a united nation for all Kenyans living today, and all future generations.

“These areas include lack of national ethos, responsibilities and rights, divisive elections, inclusivity, shared prosperity, corruption, devolution and safety and security.” He added.

He said the BBI is a child of president Kenyatta and opposition leader, Mr. Odinga, and was conceived in March 2019 during the famous handshake.
