Opinion: “Youth engagement in decision making”, an implementation of promised programs by the SSNYU

By Marial Mangar Akol,

Sep 12, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — This article in its totality serves as an Appreciation-of-Honor to the chairman of the South Sudan National Youth Union (SSNYU), Cde. Gola Boyoi. In my last article on my Facebook timeline on the night of the election I said Vote for Gola Boyoi and you will see the revival of youth developmental activities.

Before I go any further, let me inform you that I was a team member of the #Gola2019 during the campaign. However, today is the first time I am giving my appreciation of honor to his leadership. Remember, the title above does not dictate the content of this article, I will explain everything in depth until I depict the full meaning of the title.

As I mentioned above, In early August 2019 during the SSNYU and through the campaign’s commencement, I predicted today’s occurrence perfectly: the anticipated and exceptional desire in the shadow of comrade Gola. To predict this, I had to navigate and grip on to obligations to support him. I had encountered some critics on the platform I had chosen to convey my campaign messages. But I used those criticism to shape and brighten the campaign.

Now, as you read this, I am proud. I felt not betrayal, I felt no mistrust and I am still standing tall, even more than before, to support him. In a short period of time, less than a year, I have some gratifying achievements registered in my diary. And to my core, I believe in the “do the little and win my appreciation” principle for I do not support the hooligans but someone with qualities of leadership. Therefore, I decided to pen down this article for the perfect reasons here under.

After his successful victory, in just few months Mr. Gola Boyoi assumed and started his duties exactly as I expected of him, contrary to our previous mobile office located at the back chair, an office located in a vehicle. Cde. Gola made his office known, and accessible. Currently they as leadership perform their activities in their own premises.

In South Sudan, a country where region and gender diversity drive every agendas and programs, Cde. Chairman managed with excellency to form his government reflecting 35% of women representation which is lovable. And to its uniqueness, Mrs. Parmela Paul Machuei covered as deputy chairperson who, not only on a gender ticket but equally through her capabilities, won the trust of the chairman. There was also no question as to his entire government’s structure, all regions were represented with competent youth.

In March this year, the nation was shocked by the pandemic Covid-19 with the fast and wide spread countywide. SSNYU leadership took the lead in its awareness. They went underground in collaboration with South Sudan Youth Coalitions disseminating and demonstrating Corona Virus WHO preventive measures to the population. They distributed thousands of face masks, water-tape, soaps and sanitizer throughout Juba city. A great job worth our appreciation!

The last three months, SSNYU had initiated fundraising to support the needy. Like a young girl who was helpless and in dire critical situation. They managed to raised the required amount and took her abroad for further medical care.

On the 3rd of September, SSNYU held a penal discussion titled “Youth Engagement for Sustainable Peace and Development” where youth leaders of various capacities were among the panel while the union deputy chairperson was the moderator. The penal discussion was a recap of the Youth International day’s celebration.  So, when you look back at the events I wrote on my timeline on 22nd October 2019, one is able to say cde. Chairman is on right track.

Here is what I wrote:

If the South Sudan Youth would vote for Gola Boyoi, he will do all of the following. He will make collective engagement of the youth in decision making and will work on the implementation of the current conflict to make sure we are living with the identity of being YOUTH and South Sudanese. Also, he will not only work on a liveable environment to change society’s approach in order to meet the set of criteria of sustainable development but also on the independency of the youth: The Youth profession (the civil youth  segment, empowering professional structures and training through Non-Governmental organizations—participation , services, volunteers, advocacy—to mentioned but a few).

If one could identify the events he has done and compare them to what I said earlier you will come to the conclusion that Cde. Gola is on a right track. Thereof, through him we will have the young leaders our country wants and he should be encouraged to do more.

Before I conclude, if this article reaches cde. chairman’s office as it was proposed, I wish to predicate some tips and recommendations for his consideration.  First, there won’t be any tangible achievements or full accomplishment of the programs without the cooperation with the authorities. It is especially the case under the youth cluster in R-TGoNU despite the fact that SSNYU is an independent organization. I was excited when I saw SSNYU leadership with the Vice President, Her Excellency Mama Rebecca. Thus, I wish that more of the step taken in the Ministry of Youth and sports are done in cooperation. The more we all cooperate, the more we will be able to have a good mood and environment and achieve much more!!

Secondly, I wish to ask your leadership to approach and work hand-in-hand with the Minister of Public Service & Human Resource Development, Hon. Bangasi Joseph Bagasoro, who promisingly had plans in
place on provision of job opportunities for the youth. His desire to lay the foundation and his initiative are the last hope for the youth of this country. And, unfortunately, we are all aware that the majority of South Sudanese youth who graduated from various universities are on the streets. This is the very youth who wrongly chose media war and committing other crimes. The product of idleness is sipping tea from morning to evening.

I am also taking this opportunity to inform and urge your authority, SSNYU, to cease media confrontation with some outraged critic. The union had a strong press desk and it sounded diplomatic and intellectual. If only the union would put clarification about any propaganda and fabrications proliferated by enemies on social media.

Lastly, a nice beginning makes a good ending, however keep up the spirit, never rest until your objectives are as bright as you wished. Setting a difference means achieving your goal at last.

Thanks,
