According to the president’s spokesman, Ateny Wek Ateny, they discussed the status of the peace agreement and its implementation.

“President Salva Kiir met with Troika special envoys to South Sudan at the State House on Thursday. They discussed the status of the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement and the way forward.” Reads part of the statement from the office of the president.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Norway’s special envoy to South Sudan, Endre Stiansen, applauded President Salva Kiir for the progress “he has made in South Sudan and Sudan” in regards to peace.

According to the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia Lomoro, President Salva Kiir expressed his desire for the peace agreement to be implemented.

Elia commended the Troika for their commitment to ensure that South Sudan and Sudan attain peace.

The latest South Sudan peace agreement, which was signed on September 12, 2018, will mark its second anniversary tomorrow; however, the Revitalized Peace Agreement is still in its pre-transitional period leaving doubts on the leaders’ political wills to implement the deal.

According to speculations on social media, the South Sudanese president who has ruled over the conflict that has claimed more than 400 thousands lives, could be nominated for peace prizes in the region if he implements the peace agreement in letter and spirit, and for his role in Sudan peace talks.
