EU Representatives meet Dr. Machar, demand transparency and equal representation

September 10, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — The Representatives of the European Union met South Sudan’s First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon, to discuss how South Sudan could benefit from the EU investments in Africa if there is peace, stability, financial transparency and equal representation of all the 64 plus tribes [populations] in the government.

Speaking to the media after meeting Dr. Machar, the EU Deputy Head of Mission, Alessandro Rossi, said their meeting discussed how South Sudan is preparing to participate in the upcoming submits of the European Union and also of the African Union, among others.

“We met with the First Vice President to discuss how the South Sudanese government is preparing for the Submit of the European Union and the African Union that will happen later in the year or early preparatory meeting for the foreign ministers that will happen at the end of September”Alessandro Rossi, the EU Deputy Head of Mission.

Amb. Rossi stressed that it is important for South Sudan to be in good terms with the European Union to benefit from the EU investments in Africa.

“We think the partnership between Europe and Africa is important for each state in Europe and also in Africa” the EU Deputy Head of Mission said.

To be on safe side, Amb. Rossi reiterates that South Sudan needs to have peace, stability, transparency both in financial management and also in government representation across regions and tribes to qualify for the European Investments in Africa.

“The same also for South Sudan, it could gain a lot from the investment that Europe will make in Africa in the next few years provided that there is agreement on strategic priorities, provided that there is peace and stability in the country, there is transparency in the government both financially and representation of all the population” Alessandro said.

Dr. Machar office confirmed that the meeting discussed South Sudan’s participation in EU and AU submits, and also participation at the Ministerial level.

“The meeting with the EU envoys also discussed the upcoming Summit in between the African Union (AU) and EU at the end of September for the Ministerial level, and at the end of October for the level of the Heads of State and Government.” Gatdet Dak said.
