August 18, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – Mali’s President, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, and his prime minister have been arrested hours after gunfire was heard in part of the capital, several sources in the capital have confirmed.

Soldiers mutinied this morning at Kati army barrack, a few miles away from, the capital Bamako.

The arrest, sources said, was made by the mutinying soldiers who are said to have been consolidating power in the capital and in the neighboring towns.

Eyewitnesses have said that the coup leader is Colonel Sadio Camara. Nothing is known about him, however.  Several high-ranking politicians and officials have been kidnapped, including Finance Minister Abdoulaye Daffe and the National Guard’s chief of staff.

The national broadcaster, ORTM, has been evacuated. According to ORTM employees, a group of possible coup-leaders should be on their way to the station.
