Kiir “shocked” over gruesome killing of children in Juba

August 3, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s president, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has said that he is saddened and shocked by the killing of three children who were murdered in Rock City, a neighborhood in Juba, on Saturday.

Over the weekend, three siblings were murdered by an unknown perpetrator while watching TV as the mother was outside the house. Authorities in the capital have not made any arrest in connection to the incident.

“Like all South Sudanese across this country, I am shocked and saddened by the heartless murder of innocent children at Rock City residential area in Juba on August 15, 2020. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the parents of the children, rock city residents, and residents of Juba and all South Sudanese who are grappling with the magnitude of this crime,” the South Sudanese head of state said.

“The pain and trauma inflicted on us by the perpetrator (s) of this crime is enormous, but we, as a country, will prevail.  We will work tirelessly to make this criminal pay dearly for this heinous crime,” he added.

The president said he has directed the law enforcement agencies in the capital to work hard to make sure that the culprit is brought to justice. Kiir also requested in the statement the corporation of the citizen in the hunt for the criminal.

“To this effect, I am directing law enforcement agencies to use every tool in their disposal towards expeditious apprehension and trial of the suspect (s) in this unjustifiable murder. I would also like to appeal to the members of the public who may know something about this case to support investigations by passing information to the police to help them solve this barbaric act,” he said.

“As we mourn these children, let us stand in solidarity with their parents and pray that God will give them inner strengthen to help them cope with this tragedy,” he added.
