August 1, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – President Salva Kiir’s press secretary, Ateny Wek Ateny, has said that the killing of businessman and former national security service detainee, Kerbino Wol, does not need the approval of President Salva Kiir saying commanders who killed him do not need to take permission from the president.

In late June, South Sudan military forces in the country’s Lakes state fought elements of armed men loyal to Kerbino Wol, later killing him in action, ten days after announcing the formation of a rebel group that aimed at toppling the government of President Salva Kiir.

Speaking to the SBS Dinka radio which is based in Australia, Ateny denied reports that Kerbino was executed and said that the businessman was killed during engagement between his forces and those belonging to the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF).

“Kerbino was killed in action he was not executed. Anyone who knows Kerbino can only engage him with a gun not physically and why he was able to take a gun from the guards.  He also announced on VOA that he needed to change the Government,” Ateny said.

“Only in a country where Ajak Deng Chiengkou is a journalist…that why he is expecting the Government not to act. They need us to take our dancing sticks or beat the drum when one rebelled….Kerbino Wol Agok was pardoned by the President, and he appreciated the President for saving his life.

“I attended the event where Kerbino invited the President.  The President has not authorized his killing….If I were the commander, why do I need to be approved by the President when dealing with a person who rebelled?”
