BREAKING: Kiir’s envoy to Pibor Akot Lual arrested by NSS

July 22, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s National Security Service (NSS) has arrested the presidential advisor on minority affairs, Akot Lual, after reports that he was providing arms to Murle community in violation to the country’s laws, sources with direct knowledge told Nyamilepedia.

One source said Akot was arrested near the Juba Central Prison and was being held at the National Security Headquarters which is also known as Blue house.

“Akot Lual has now been arrested. He has been giving arms and ammunition to the Murle which is now being used to kidnap children, women, and raid cattle in Jonglei state counties of Bor, Dut, and Greater Lou-Nuer areas,” the source said.

Another source said the order to have him arrested was made by the committee on Jonglei violence which is led by vice-president James Wani Igga after local residents in Bor informed Igga that Akot Lual was the one responsible for the surge in violence in the country.

“The order to arrest him comes from the committee headed by vice president James Wani,” the source said. “When Wani go to Bor last week, people of Bor told him that Akot Lual is providing weapons to militia of Pibor and kill people in their land.”

South Sudan’s army spokesman, Maj. Gen. Lul Ruai Koang was not reachable for comment.
