July 8, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) has become a laughing stock since the signing of the revitalized peace agreement and the return to Juba, Dr. Lam Akol, a senior member of the Alliance said.

The opposition consortium has been in an internal wrangle over power since the reconstitution of the unity government earlier this year.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia last week, Dr. Akol who is the secretary-General of the Alliance accused some members of the Alliance of leaving the basic principles of the group and working for the government of President Salva Kiir saying they have become a laughing stock.

“When the peace agreement was being violated in the various forms whether it is the appointment of the undersecretaries or the appointment of the people of the bank of South Sudan, whether it is seizing position of the OPP, did they issue a statement as a SSOA to say no this is wrong let us stick to the peace agreement?” Akol asked.

“They have become a laughing stock among the South Sudanese,” he added.

The opposition leader who is also the chairperson of National Democratic Movement (NDM) said those unnamed members of the group have deceived the people of South Sudan of having a charter and following the signing of the agreement, they have moved away from the group’s document.

“Now, the South Sudanese tell them [that] now you have deceived us that you have a charter which says very nice things about reforms, about change, about constitution and now you are doing something different. So, they are the last people to talk about anybody not respecting the charter because they don’t even want to hear about the charter,” he said.
