June 3, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s president, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has condemned the killing today of four members of single family by one of his relatives and a senior officer in the South Sudan army.

Lual Marine, the President Salva Kiir’s nephew, this morning opened fire at a family in Gumbo area outside Juba killing four innocent people for dodging a request by him that they leave.

In a statement this afternoon, president Salva Kiir’s press secretary Ateny Wek Ateny said the President has condemned the incident and said investigation will start to bring the culprit who he said has been arrested, to justice.

“The President condemns this in the strongest terms possible, and has directed authorities to investigate the incident and press charges against the perpetrator/s immediately,” the statement seen by Nyamilepedia said.

While the statement says the situation was under control, it added that was a “very serious criminal act [and] the perpetrator (s) must be punished.”

Many social media users have said that the perpetrator is a relative of President Salva Kiir Mayardit. Some however said he is a nephew to the president.

Ateny denied in the statement that the culprit is Kiir’s son but admitted that he is a “distance relative of the President, but he was acting alone.”
