Nuer community in Europe condemns Murle attack on Greater Akobo
May 18, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – The Nuer Community in Europe’s Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg) has condemned the ongoing Murle attack on several villages in South Sudan’s Uror County of Jonglei state.
Over the weekend, several villages in Uror County were attacked by heavily armed youth from neighboring Pibor Administrative Area. In the attack, an unknown number of people was killed and a number of cattle was also looted.
“The Naath Community in the Benelux region (NCA) condemns vehemently the senseless attack on various Payams of Lou-Nuer in Jonglei State by the Murle community,” the Nuer community in Benelux said in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia.
“The attackers torched houses, killed, and maimed an unknown number of innocent children, women and elderly persons as well as the youth that responded for rescue. This evilest event occurs despite the world, and especially South Sudan is trying to find ways of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. Since no raiding of cattle or anything occurred, the reasons for these attacks are not known,” the statement added.
The statement further urged the revitalized unity government to condemn that attack bring the culprits to book
“This terrorist …. act cannot be condoned, especially at a time when all South Sudanese are working hard to give peace a chance in the just-formed R-TGNU. We call upon all the parties to the R-ARCSS, and particularly the principles of R-TGNU to condemn this inhumane attack on the Lou Nuer community or any other community that the criminals might plan to invade,” the statement said.
“The R-TGNU government and all other parties must rebuke David Yau Yau for these actions taking place under his watch if at all it is not preaching water and drinking wine. We call upon R-JMEC and IGAD to hold accountable the entire R-TGNU for allowing such archaic acts to occur under their watch,” it added.
