South Sudan’s Kiir recalls David Yau Yau to Juba

April 25, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has reportedly ordered former governor of the defunct Buma state, General David Yau Yau, to report to Juba, sources close to the South Sudanese head of state said on Saturday.

For the last few weeks, Yau Yau has been mobilizing youth to attack villages in the Greater Akobo as youth gatherings has been spotted in several parts of Lokongule, according to several residents who spoke to Nyamilepedia on Friday.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia this evening, a government official in Juba said the president has ordered Yau Yau to return to Juba as reports of mobilization reached the office of the president.

“David Yau Yau is coming to Juba. He has been told by the president to report to the capital within 72 hours,” the official said on condition of anonymity.

“You may have heard the reports of recruitment in Pibor and Lokongule. These are very disturbing and it is very unfortunate that at a time the government and the people of this country are working to achieve permanent peace, some are mobilizing for war,” the official added.

In a related development, the country’s high-level taskforce on coronavirus have decided to grant permission to the airplane that will airlift Yau Yau from Pibor on the directive of President Salva Kiir.

“[The High-Level Taskforce] grants Special Permission for a charter plane to fly a private South Sudanese citizen, Mr. David Yau Yau, from Pibor to Juba on 26 April 2020,” the notice signed by First Vice-President Dr. Riek Machar Teny who is also the deputy chairperson the coronavirus taskforce partly read.
