April 21, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — A top holdout opposition commander has died of a urethral illness in the country’s Western Equatoria state on Sunday, an opposition spokesperson said in a statement.

Suba Samuel Manase, the spokesman of the National Salvation Front (NAS) led by General Thomas Cirilo Swaka, said the group’s commander in Tombura, Maj. General Micah John Abdu, died on Sunday after a short illness.

“The Leadership of National Salvation Front (NAS) with deep sorrow and grief regrets to inform all its forces, members and supporters and the people of South Sudan that it has received news of the sudden death of Maj. “Gen, Micah John Abdu passed on in his duty station after short illness of urinary retention which quickly deteriorated and claimed his life,” he added.

He further praised the late rebel commander saying he “paid the ultimate sacrifice while on the line of duty, defending his country and people from injustices.”

“Our hearts are with you as we pray to the Lord to console and give you strength at this difficult time.

“Major General Micah John Abdu was an excellent commander, a patriot, revolutionary and a true freedom fighter.
