Second batch of Chinese COVID-19 donation arrives in Juba

April 21, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — On April 17, the second batch of anti COVID-19 medical supplies donated by Jack Ma and Alibaba Foundation was delivered to South Sudan at Juba International Airport.

The donation includes 5 ventilators, 18900 swabs and viral transport mediums, 18912 extraction kits, 3800 faceshields, 3800 medical disposable protective clothings, 9500 medical gloves and 36 thermometer guns.

These materials will be used for the prevention, control and treatment of the COVID-19. Chinese ambassador to South Sudan Hua Ning, South Sudan ambassador to China Duku, and Ambassador Dominic, Director General of China Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Sudan, attended the handover ceremony at the airport.

Ambassador Hua said that during the most difficult time of China’s battle against the COVID-19, South Sudan and many African countries have given China firm support. We are always grateful for that.

Jack Ma and the Alibaba Foundation actively fulfilled their social responsibilities and donated two batches of medical materials, reflecting the affections of the Chinese people to the people of South Sudan and Africa.

The first batch of aid is playing an important role in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 in South Sudan. With the several confirmed cases here now, the second batch of medical supply will help to strengthen the ability of South Sudan to cope with the epidemic and alleviate the shortage of medical stockpile.

Ambassador Hua said that just yesterday, two medical teams sent by the Chinese Government have arrived at Ethiopia and Burkina Faso respectively.

Chinese experts will share China’s experience in fighting the COVID-19 with local medical institutions and medical personnels, and provide professional support for the African Union and relevant countries in epidemic control.

China and African countries will always maintain solidarity, cooperation and friendship and work together to overcome the COVID-19.

Ambassador Hua thanked the Government of Ethiopia, the African Union, WHO, WFP, Ethiopian Airlines for their assistance in the distribution and transportation of the aid materials, welcomed the assistance provided by some countries and international organizations to South Sudan and other African countries.

He stressed that the Chinese Government attaches great importance to the irreplaceable leadership role of WHO in coordinating the response to global public health events, and will continue to firmly support the work of WHO.

It is believed that with the support of international community, South Sudan and other African countries will finally defeat the virus.

Entrusted by Hon. Foreign Minister Beatrice Khamisa Wani-Noah and on behalf of the Government of South Sudan, Ambassador Duku thanked China for extending timely assistance to South Sudan.

He said that at present, the Government and people of South Sudan are making full efforts to carry out COVID-19 prevention and control.

The Chinese Government has sent medical teams and Chinese enterprises have donated urgently needed medical materials and equipments to South Sudan and African countries, strongly supporting their anti COVID-19 efforts, which fully reflects the great importance the Chinese Government and people attach to the relationship and cooperation between China, South Sudan and Africa.

The donation will effectively enhance the capacity of South Sudan and other African countries to fight against the COVID-19. South Sudan will make full use of these materials, learn from China’s experience, and work together in a spirit of unity and cooperation for an early victory over the epidemic.
