April 5, 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan government and the United Nations mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) said on Sunday that they will trace people who were in contact with a coronavirus patient.

First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny who is also the deputy chairperson of the coronavirus taskforce announced this morning the first coronavirus case in South Sudan of a Netherlands UN staffer who arrived in the country in late February.

Machar said the government will – together with the UN mission – trace people who had contacts with the 29-year-old female UN staffer who has now been put in a medical monitoring.

“We will trace those who were in contact with the patient during the last one month,” Machar said before adding: “The UN will assist in the process.”

Machar who said the patient was in a “stabble” condition further urged the people to observe the health measures put forth by the government and the World Health Organization (WHO) to safeguard the safety of the people of South Sudan.

For his part, the head of the UN mission David Shearer said the patient was in contact with a number of people whom he said will also be traced and quarantine and tests will follow.
