General Olony to be appointed Upper Nile state governor – sources

March 7th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan opposition commander General Johnson Colony has been nominated by the SPLM-IO chairman Dr. Riek Machar to be appointed governor of Upper Nile state, sources familiar said.

General Colony who commands the SPLA-IO allied Agwelek forces has been one of the most powerful commanders of the main armed opposition.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia this afternoon, an SPLM-IO official who is close to Machar said Oliny’s named would be submitted with two others nominated for the governorship of Lakes and Eastern Equatoria state.

“General Olony has been nominated by the chairman and Commander in Chief to be appointed as the governor of Upper Nile state,” the source said from Juba on condition of anonymity.

“His name will be submitted along two others who have also been nominated for the governorship of Eastern Equatoria and Lakes states,” the official added.
