February 27th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – Representatives of the parties to the revitalized peace agreement discussing the allocation of ministerial portfolios have asked President Salva Kiir and First Vice-President Dr. Riek Machar to intervene after failure to reach an agreement on what ministry goes to which party, a senior government official said.

Yesterday, government and opposition officials said from Juba that there was disagreement over the allocation of key ministries including defense and petroleum. A government official said SPLM-IO led by Machar wanted to have the defense and Petroleum.

Opposition officials could not reply when asked by Nyamilepedia on the issue.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia this morning, a government official said the negotiators have wrote to president Kiir and FVP Dr. Riek Machar to take over the issue and decide which ministry goes to what party.

“We have requested the two principals, the president and the first vice president to intervene because this deadlock should not continue as the time is going,” the senior government official told the Nyamilepedia on condition of anonymity.

“As the time is going, they have to decide which ministry is going to whom,” the government official said.

SPLM-IO officials were not available for comment.
