February 25th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s holdout opposition groups have called for a fresh peace talks with the country’s newly formed transitional coalition government so as the root causes of the current conflict could be addressed.

This comes few days after the government and opposition groups who are signatories to the 2018 revitalized peace agreement agreed to form the long-awaited unity government provided for in the peace agreement.

In a statement, the South Sudan Opposition Movements Alliance (SSOMA), a coalition of holdout opposition groups who refused to signed the revitalized peace agreement, said there was need to address the root causes of the current conflict if a sustainable peace is to be achieved.

“SSOMA would like to reiterate to all the people of South Sudan that sustainable peace cannot be achieved without resolving the root causes of the conflict in the country,” SSOMA said in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia.

“We encourage the new transitional government, R-TGoNU to use this opportunity to engage in real and substantive negotiations on the way forward to achieve peace in South Sudan,” the statement added.
