February 25th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s first vice-president and SPLM-IO, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, who has been under house arrest since the collapse of a unity government in 2016, was free to move, the IGAD special envoy to South Sudan Ismail Wais said on Monday.

Machar was forced to exile in July 2016 after fighting erupted between his guards and a huge force belonging to president Salva Kiir that was stationed in Juba.

He went to Congo and the to Khartoum and later on the region decided to put him under house arrest in South Africa where he remained until mid 2018 after peace talks between opposition and the government began.

Dr. Riek Machar is free to move and he does not need the permission of anyone to travel anywhere he wish,” Wais said Monday in Juba.
