Feb 24, 2020(Nyamilepedia) — U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, while calling for full implementation of the peace agreement, said the South Sudan politics has been engaged in corruption, violence and self-interest since the young nation became independence in 2011.

“Since the country’s independence in 2011, South Sudan’s leaders have been marked by grand corruption, violence, and self-interest.” Said Senator Jim Risch.

The U.S Senator welcomes the swearing-in of South Sudan’s Vice Presidents that shall be followed by the swearing in of the full transitional leadership and challenge the leaders to avert the suffering they have imposed on their people for years.

“The swearing-in of South Sudan’s new transitional leadership marks a crucial milestone in a much-delayed peace process. The South Sudanese have suffered unspeakable horrors since the start of a civil war in 2013, and this troubling history emphasizes the need for meaningful change.” Senator Jim continued.

“It is my hope that South Sudan’s leaders will use Saturday’s milestone to deliver lasting peace and relieve the South Sudanese people of their suffering.” He further emphasized.

Senator Jim further acknowledged that until it is done, a successful unity government and preservation remain as critical challenges.

“A successful unity government and the preservation of a tenuous peace are two of the challenges ahead for the world’s youngest nation.” The U.S. Senator said.
