February 16th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan government has rubbished reports that information minister Michael Makuei as resigned in protest to a decision by President Salva Kiir to order return of the country to ten states.
Social media users circulated reports that Makuei resigned after learning that Kiir was heading to revoke the 32 states and return the country to 10 states.
Makuei who did not attend a meeting attended by other ministers ahead of Kiir’s Saturday announcement was critical of opposition’s demand to revoke the 32 states.
In a statement this morning, the ministry of information said the reports alleging Makuei’s resignation were “fake” and accused saying there were aiming at causing fear among the public over the decision of the president to return the country to ten states.
“This is to inform all the general public and the citizens of South Sudan in particular that the news been circulated on the social media that the Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth has resigned, is a baseless information and considered as fake news. The poster aims intended to create fear among the citizens,” the ministry said in the statement seen by Nyamilepedia.
“Hon. Michael Makuei yesterday immediately after the presidency decision went to the National TV and Radio (SSBC) and urges the people of South Sudan to support the decision made by the Leadership for the greater interest of the people of South Sudan,” the statement added.
The statement said the people circulating the news of Makuei’s resignation were “enemies of peace and have ill intentions for our beloved Country. So Please don’t believe on any of the news published on irrelevant source of Information get the formal news from the credible sources, so please let’s support our President and peace.”
