January 29th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan parliament is scheduled to debate the incorporation of the revitalize peace agreement into the country’s transitional constitution, a lawmaker said.

The government of President Salva Kiir and opposition groups signed a revitalized version of a 2015 peace agreement to end the ongoing civil war in September 2018.

For that agreement to be a legal document, it have to be incorporated into the current constitution once approved by the parliamentarians.

The Chairperson of the Information Committee Paul Yoane bonju said the MPs will debate the issue ahead of the formation of a unity government in February this year.

The unity government expected next month will pave way for elections in which South Sudanese will either chose one of the current rivals – President Salva Kiir and opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar – or another person as president.
