US embassy asks gov’t to handover part of Juba airport ahead of top diplomat’s visit
This week, US Assistant Secretary for African Affairs Tibor Nagy – alongside other senior US state department officials – is coming to Juba for talk with the parties over the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.
During his visit, Nagy will meet President Salva Kiir, SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny and other opposition figures that are parts to the revitalized peace agreement signed in September 2018.
In a letter addressed to South Sudan’s foreign ministry, the US embassy requested access to Juba International Airport’s VIP Lounge beginning from Thursday.
“The Embassy of the Unites States of America presents its compliment to the ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan and has the honor to request access to Juba International Airport VIP Lounge for U.S. Assistant Secretary for African Affairs Tibor Nagy and two accompanying staff Louis Mazel and James Plasmar,” the letter seen by Nyamilepedia partly reads.
Nagy will arrive in Juba aboard Kenyan Airways plane on Thursday and will depart the country on Friday. He is also expected to visit other African countries on a range of several issues, according to the state department.
