January 4th 2020 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition group, SPLA-IO, has said that it is under attack in the country’s Maiwut state of Upper Nile also known as, otherwise, as Adar state.

Brig. Gen. William Gatjiath Deng, the SPLA-IO spokesman said in a statement on Friday that forces belonging to General Ochan Puot who defected to the government last year were shelling their bases in Adar state.

“This morning at around 8:00am, the forces led by government notorious militia Cdr. Ochan Puot Buop, started shelling on the SPLA-IO gallant forces at Khormachar, Adar State,” Gatjiath said.

“It seems to be surprise to both locals, region, and International community that the country is on the verge of implementing the security arrangements for the warfare of the nation,  but what is that mean?” Gatjiath asked.

He further said “Ochan has been fighting us for six (6) Months while the nation is yearning for peace, who leads the current war?”
