December 19th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South African Vice-President David Mabuza is in the Sudanese capital Khartoum for talk with leader of the country’s Sovereignty Council General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan on South Sudan’s ongoing fragile peace process.

His trip to the Sudanese capital follows an early trip to Uganda where he met President Yoweri Museveni over the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS) signed by South Sudan government and opposition groups over a year ago.

Speaking to journalists upon arrival in Khartoum this morning, the South African politician said his meeting with Museveni was fruitful and that the two would continue with efforts to ensure advancement of the peace process in South Sudan.

“In my meeting with President Museveni we further committed to working together in ensuring that the parties to the agreement stay on course and are supported in their efforts of making this peace process a success. We are confident that when parties work together for the good of South Sudan, substantive progress will be made in this window period thereby silencing the guns and building lasting peace in South Sudan,” Mabuza said.

Earlier this month, Mabuza made a three-day visit to Juba, during which he facilitated a Consultative Meeting of the Parties to the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan.

The Consultative Meeting was on the thorny issue of the number and boundaries of states. The parties failed to agree on the issue and the Mabuza’s mediation had to take break for ten days for consultations.
