December 13th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan peace implementing body, the National Pre-Transitional Committee (NPTC), has allocated $16 million for the security arrangements, government and opposition officials said Friday.

The government in November directed for the disbursement of $40 million to the NPTC for peace implementation but several opposition officials told the Nyamilepedia in several interviews that none of that amount have reached the NPTC.

In a statement issued Friday, the SPLM-IO director of information and public relations Puok Both Baluang welcomed the allocation of the money for but urged the government to disburse the remaining amount meant for peace implementation.

“The SPLM/SPLA (IO) welcome the decision by the incumbent government of South Sudan for availing Sixteen Millions (16,000,000) US Dollars out of the Forty Million (40,000,000) US Dollars which was declared last month to be allocated to the NPTC by the government, as funds for the implementation of the R-ARCSS,” Baluang said.

“In that note, we urge the incumbent government to avail, on time, the remaining funds for the implementation of the pending Pre-Transitional Period activities as per the Agreement,” he added.

For his part, Cabinet Affairs minister and secretary of the NPTC, Martin Elia Lomoro, admitted that there was delay but urged the security mechanisms to speed up their work as they have now been given the money needed for their work.

“There is delay but the mechanisms have committed themselves to speed up. Now they have the funds within their control and they should be able to move forward expeditiously. There is this issue of supplies which has been there. Food and medicines need to be purchased quickly,” Lomoro said.
