Dr. Machar Meets The SPLM-IO Leadership In Juba

Dec 11, 2019(Nyamilepedia) — South Sudan’s Dr. Riek Machar Teny, the former First Vice President and chairman of the main armed opposition, SPLM/A(IO), met the political bureau and National Liberation Council of the SPLM/A(IO) on the sideline in the South Sudanese capital, Juba.

Dr. Machar, who has attended several meetings within the last two days, briefed the SPLM/A(IO) leadership in Juba and asked their opinions on the pending issues that he is currently negotiating with his rival, President Salva Kiir Mayardit.

The meeting was held at the Pyramid Hotel in Juba and chaired by the chairman, Dr. Machar, together with Deputy SPLM-IO Chairman, Hon. Henry Dilah Odwar and the Secretary General, Tingo Peter.

Members of the SPLA-IO military command were also in attendance.

The SPLM/A(IO) leadership deliberated on how the pending issues should be resolved but no conclusions were reached at the time of this report.

In other reports, Dr. Machar met with president Salva Kiir and said their meeting was friendly and fruitful, however, the parties will continue to deliberate on pending issues and mechanism on Thursday.

“We will have another meeting with mechanisms on Thursday.” Said Dr. Machar.

“There will be more meetings with military and political mechanisms on Thursday morning so President Kiir and Dr. Riek are briefed by the mechanisms,” NPTC chairman and presidential adviser on security, Tut Kew, added.

Speaking to media, the SPLM-IO leader further wished the people of South Sudan a happy Christmas in advance.

“I also want to seize this opportunity to say happy Christmas to the people of South Sudan,” Machar said.

Speaking to media, the head of Sudanese delegation and deputy of Sudan Transition Military Council(TMC), Lt. Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, said the Sudanese leadership is happy with how the ceasefire agreement is being observed and urged the parties to continue to do so.

“We are happy because the parties are respecting the ceasefire agreement, we want to assure the public that we are monitoring the implementation of the peace agreement,” Dagalo said.
