November 21st 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – President Salva Kiir on Thursday inaugurated the first power project in the country’s capital Juba which is expected to provide electricity to many of the capital’s neighborhoods.

Speaking following the inauguration, minister of electricity and dams Dhieu Mathok Ding said the launch came after a contract was signed between his ministry and the Ezra Power company some time back.

He said the project was funded by African Development Bank and will serve around 3,000 households in the capital.

“The project was funded by the African Development Bank after the government of the Republic of South Sudan reached an understanding with the Ezra Power company,” Mathok said.

“This will provide the 3,000 houses in Juba with light and the government is also working to extend 33 megawatts which has been launched today,” he added.

The power plant is the first of its kind in South Sudan since it gained its independence from Sudan in 2011. The new power project has employed 300 South Sudan according to a representative of the company.
