Machar’s SPLM-IO welcomes ex-FDs official decision to join group

November 13th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition group SPLM-IO has welcomed the decision by ex-FDs official Nyenagwek Kuol to join its rank.

Kuol in a statement dated September 9th 2019 declared her decision to join the Machar-led movement. She said South Sudan needs a new “political dispensation” to save it from its current ethnic polarization.

In a statement, the SPLM-IO announced her decision today.

“The leadership of the SPLM/SPLA (IO) would like to seize this precious opportunity to announce to members and the public at large that, Hon. Nyenagwek Kuol Mareng has joined the SPLM/SPLA (IO) in September 9th, 2019,” the SPLM-IO statement

“Hon. Nyenagwek Kuol Mareng was Minister of Information and Telecommunications in former Warrap State, former member of the R-ARCSS Independent Boundaries Commission (IBC) representing the SPLM Former Political Detainees (FDs), and a Political Leader from Abyei.

“We highly appreciates Hon. Nyenagwek Kuol Mareng for the bold decision taken by her to join the SPLM/SPLA (IO) under the leadership of H.E. Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon.

Finally, as the SPLM/SPLA (IO) warmly welcome Hon. Nyenagwek Kuol Mareng to the People’s Movement, we would like to announce to the general public that, the SPLM/SPLA (IO) will adapt the question of Abyei, and will make every effort to find a compromise solution to achieve just, peaceful and political settlement on its final status.”
