November 13th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan’s main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny who was in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa before his return to Khartoum yesterday met and discussed the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement with the IGAD Special Envoy for South Sudan, Ismail Wais, the IGAD secretariat said.

Machar traveled last week to Addis Ababa where he attended a high-level meeting of the IGAD Council of Minister and a meeting of the parties to the revitalized peace agreement.

In a tweet on Tuesday the IGAD Secretariat said the two met and discussed the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

“The IGAD Special Envoy @ismail_wais met with @Drriekmachar in Addis Ababa to discuss the implementation of the R-ARCSS agreement,” the secretariat said.

The meeting came following the extension of the pre-transitional period during a meeting in Uganda by President Kiir and SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny.

The parties were supposed to form a unity government yesterday based on a May 2019 extension that was initially agreed upon by the parties following the signing of the revitalized peace agreement in September last year.
