November 3rd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A senior South Sudan government official has said his work is being jeopardize to realize the importance of federalism in the world’s youngest nation.

Richards K. Mulla, the country’s minister of federal affairs said last week that federalism has been misunderstood adding that his work on the governance system has been jeopardized by people he didn’t name.

“The Federal system of governance is the viable scheme if implemented and will unite as well as protecting the interest of South Sudanese,” Mulla said.

Mulla further said federalism did not mean the previous divisive system known as “Kokora which centered on regionalization based on ethnicity.

“The Federal government which is the popular demand of the people of South Sudan should not be misunderstood. It is not Kokora but it is devolution of powers and resources ‘between the three levels of government,” he said.

“The devolution of powers of national government, state and the local government and which powers they exercise and that will protect the interest of the state and the unity of diversity,” Mulla added.

“Of course Kokora was very divisive indeed and because of that it has made a very serious opposition, Richard said. My ministry has not been supported at all. It does not have budget and even the political will to enable it to do its work.”
