Kiir forms committee to deliberate on number and boundaries of states

November 2nd 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit has formed a committee to deliberate on the number and boundaries of states according to a copy of the order obtained by Nyamilepedia.

The states issue is one of the outstanding issues the SPLM-IO and NDM said they will not be part of a unity government Kiir said he will form unless they are settled.

In September, Kiir and main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny agreed to form a committee to deliberate on the issue and to forward it to the two men in case of failure to reach a consensus.

The order cited as “Republican Order NO. 22/2019 for the formation of committee to look into the number and boundaries in the Republic of South Sudan, 2019 A.D,” was established by the President on October 18th and came into effect from the date of its signature by the President.

The eighteen-member committee includes Martin Elia Lomoro, Michael Makuei Lueth and Dhieu Mathok Diing from the government side while from the SPLM-IO’s side it includes Hendry Odwar, Angelina Teny and Peter Marcello.

From SSOA, the committee includes Changson Gabriel Chang, Denay Chagor, Hussein Abdel Baggi Akol, Bangasi Joseph Bakasoro and Bapiny Manytuil Wijang while for the FDs the committee includes Deng Alor Kuol, John Luk Jok and Madut Biar.

Other political parties were represented by Peter Mayen Majongdit, William Mark Faki and Martin Tako Moyi.

The president cited his powers enshrined under article 101 (f) of the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan 2019 (as amended in 2015) as well as article 1.4.3.2 of the of the revitalized peace agreement.
