October 26th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan parties to the revitalized peace agreement will meet in Addis Ababa next week over possible extension of the pre-transitional period, sources in Juba and Khartoum said.

The meeting, a source in Juba said, will discuss a rumoured extension of the pre-transitional period as exiled opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar said he will not be part of any government formed without the settlement of outstanding pre-transitional tasks.

Machar’s stance has also been echoed by NDM chairman Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin who is – like Machar – an effective figure in South Sudan politics.

Speaking to Nyamilepedia on Saturday, a source in Juba said the parties will meet in Addis Ababa next week to discuss terms of extension for the pre-transitional period.

“The parties to the revitalized peace agreement will meet in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa next week,” the source said.

Another source in Khartoum said the meeting will “discuss the terms of that extension.”

Manawa Peter Gatkuoth, a senior member of the Machar-led SPLM-IO said his group will not accept an extension that does not guarantee how the outstanding issues would be settled.
