October 20th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A senior South Sudan’s main armed opposition official has accused the government of President Salvage Kiir of impeding creation of one national army.

Manawa Peter Gatkuoth, the SPLM-IO Deputy Chairperson of National Committee for Information and Public Relations told the Nyamilepedia this morning that they will not accept the formation of unity government without the security arrangements in place.

“We will not accept to form the unity government with out the establishment of one national army,” Gatkuoth said.

“The issue of the two armies returned us to fighting in 2016, I don’t known why the government is impeding the process of creating one national army,” he added.

Gatkuoth further said they would only accept a three months extension in case the government disburse the funds needed to complete the pending process because – according to him – the agreement established a eight-month transitional period and then six months and because the money were not disbursed, the necessary arrangements couldn’t be implemented.

“We will accept a three months extension, but the government must commit to paying for the process because we don’t want the prolongation of the process without any action afterwards,” Gatkuoth said.

He said leader of pre-transitional organs will convention shortly at J1 with the two leaders and then a decision will come forward over the security arrangements.
