October 16th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A delegation of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will visit South Sudan on Sunday, the world body’s mission to the country said in a brief statement on Tuesday.
The statement seen by Nyamilepedia said the high-level UN delegation will be led by South Africa and the United states and would meet with President Salva Kiir Mayardit, other signatories to the revitalized peace agreement, civil society and women groups.
“A delegation of members of the United Nations Security Council, led by South Africa and the United States, will visit South Sudan on Sunday 20 October 2019,” the statement said.
“The delegation will meet with President Salva Kiir and other signatories to the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan as well as civil society, women’s representatives and other stakeholders in the peace process,” the statement added.
However, it was unclear whether main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar will also be in Juba on Sunday as no statement from the world body regarding his status.
In September, the SPLM-IO, a main signatory to the peace agreement signed last year, said Machar won’t return to Juba unless the region sit and decide on his status.
