October 9th 20919 (Nyamilepedia) – A group of SPLA-IO members of the VIP Protection Unit has arrived in the capital Juba, a spokesman for the main armed opposition group said on Wednesday.
Col. Lam Paul Gabriel, the SPLA-IO deputy spokesman said more than 400 personnel from the main armed opposition group arrived in Juba on Sunday and will join their counterparts from South Sudan’s army to make up the VIP protection unit.
“They are for the national security and unified army that will be deployed as soon as possible -to make sure that the government is formed according to the agreement,” Lam said.
The VIP unit would be tasked to maintain security of senior members of the Reconstituted Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) which is expected to be formed in November by the parties who signed an agreement one year ago.
