Kiir told members of JCE last week that war with Machar is “imminent”
October 7th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit reportedly told a gathering of Jieng Council of Elders (JCE) last week in Juba that return to war with SPLM-IO leader Dr. Riek Machar was imminent.
The remarks, one source from Juba told the Nyamilepedia this afternoon, were uttered by the head of state during a meeting with a group of senior members of the JCE at J1.
“The return to war with Riek [Machar] is imminent and not far but I can not tell you that that the country will definitely go to war again,” the source quoted Kiir as saying.
The source said the President however said although he cannot guarantee that the country would return to war, he will try out his level best in ensuring that “Machar do not cause setbacks to the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement I signed with him last year in Addis Ababa.”
“We will try our best Machar do not destroy this country as he did in 1991, 2013 and 2016,” the source further quoted Kiir.
