SPLM-IO official denies defecting to government
September 29th 2019 (Nyamilepedia) – A main armed opposition official loyal to the country’s First Vice-President designated Dr. Riek Machar has denied allegations that he defected to the government of President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
Dut Majokdit, the advisor on political affairs for SPLM-IO governor of Aweil state said in a statement extended to Nyamilepedia Saturday that the claims he defected to the government were being spread by anti-peace elements and were meant to destroy his refutation among the main armed opposition membership.
“….. dismiss[es] the false allegations against me by anti-peace elements and security agents of the dictatorial regime in Juba that I have defected to President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s administration,” Majokdit said.
“Therefore I want to assure our Comrades, supporters and sympathizers that I shall truly remain committed to the vision and to the objectives of the revolutionary struggle and continue to fight for reform and fundamental change in our country,” he added.
“I ………. assures Aweil federal state government under the leadership of Dr. Riek Machar through the supervision of honorable Governor Mubarak Deng Tong Duang that I’m still committed for democratic reform federalism, justice and accountability for the oppressed people [of] South Sudan.”
In a separate statement, the SPLM-IO spokesman in Northern Bahr El-Ghazal Deng Nyiwel Dhieu said the Majokdit was still loyal to the group and the claims that he defected are untrue.
“The leadership of Northern Bahr El-Ghazal federal state of Aweil and the entire leadership of the SPLM-IO led by charismatic and iconic leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon would like to inform it members and South Sudanese at large about the baseless post on Dut Majokdit’s Facebook page that he has defect to the government,” the statement said.
“That is not true, Cde Dut Majokdit is still a legitimate member of mighty SPLM-IO and still a political affairs advisor in Northern Bahr El-Ghazal Federal State Aweil under the governor Mubarak Deng Tot Duang,” it added.
